Just checking in to give you all a quick update on life here on the farm.
Firstly, apologies for my extended period of absence. To be brutally honest, in the aftermath of Brexit I became very disenchanted. The fear and uncertainty, combined with negative reactions from both parties and finished off with a large dollop of bullshit really got me down. Life has been up in the air for the past 3 or 4 months and I’ve just had no passion for sitting down and writing about farming.
Thankfully, I’ve had plenty of work to keep me busy, so I’ve just concentrated on keeping my head down, working hard and growing my contract shepherding business.
I’ve gained some wonderful new experiences and taken on a whole host of new jobs since I last blogged, including taking on some farm sitting (which is incredibly stressful), working with Wagyu cattle and even doing some milking!
Those who have been following me across social media will know, we’ve added a new member to the Solway Shepherd team, in the form of Dane the New Zealand Huntaway.
Non and Dane have been best buds and partners in crime since day 1 and getting another dog has been really good for her.
I’ve been really amazed by the Huntaway breed. Dane is sharp as a button and has picked things up a lot quicker than Non did. Whether this is a result of us being more experienced, or just a trait of the breed I don’t know, but he’s been an incredibly quick learner and far calmer and more obedient than the collie.
As you can see he’s grown quite a lot, and at just 7 months he is already out working in the fields and towering over Non. She’s still the boss though.
You may have already noticed that the website has had a little makeover, with a few things shuffled about and some new content too, so please have a nose through. I’d love some feedback.
I’ve a lot of plans for the blog and some exciting things in the works, that I’m hoping to be able share in the coming weeks and months. I’m determined to get back in the habit of keeping you all updated, so hopefully you’ll bear with me while I play around with some new ideas.
Keep your eyes peeled!
